Bishop Schneider states that the subjectivization of Christianity, initiated by Martin Luther, replaced objective faith with individual ego and interpretation. He links this to Western civilizational decline and proliferation of ideologies and sects. He contrasts this with objective truth centered on God, the Incarnation, and the Church’s continuity of tradition.

Joe: That is the beginning of the downfall of Western civilization. It is Martin Luther, and nobody wants to say it, the subjectivization of Christianity. It is not subjective. It is objective. And the subjectivization of Christianity, which, at the end of the day, was a subjectivization of what was handed down through the Catholic Church. That’s what led to the destruction over the last 500 years, right through all the false ideologies, right through the false ideas of the Enlightenment, right through the French Revolution, the Communist Revolution, and the rest.

Bishop Schneider: And as you mentioned, exactly, Luther started the subjectivism. He put your ego, your eye, your ego in the center of faith. And this is wrong, because in the center of faith is God, not I myself; it is the incarnation, the objectivity that is in the Church, and this is the continuity of the incarnation of God. Therefore, God incarnated. Otherwise, it would not be necessary that God became man visible, because you put with your beautiful ideas and with your feelings you reach some happiness, but only in your imagination, or some truth in your imagination. And this was the method of the so-called movement, or of Gnosis, Gnosticism, 2000 years ago. It was very fashionable with intellectuals, this Gnosis, so without exterior signs of the presence of God in history, only in your mind. And so this is the virus. So I would say the virus of Gnosticism, which is basically in Martin Luther, even though he may not recognize this. But this is because he makes the criteria of truth his perception. And then continuously since Martin Luther, this was a demonstration that subjectivism is producing separation, and everyone will then create their own religion, and we have today countless Protestant sects and religions or denominations which are rooted ultimately in the principle of Martin Luther to subjectively interpret the Holy Scripture.
