Bishop Schneider asserts that politicians who publicly support abortion or actions against Church teachings cannot receive Holy Communion. Doing so would falsely imply union with God and the Church, desecrate the sacrament, and endanger their salvation. Priests must charitably refuse Communion to protect souls and uphold Church teaching.

Never, it is impossible. It is against the meaning of the Holy Eucharist itself. It is against the meaning of being Catholic. And not only late-term abortion, but any abortion. When someone publicly supports the killing of an innocent child, an unborn child, regardless of the age of the unborn from conception, it is a horrible crime that cries out to heaven. When someone supports this, he is committing a grave sin because he is supporting murder, and under no circumstances can he be admitted to Holy Communion until he repents and publicly retracts. He must publicly repent and retract.

This is because Holy Communion is the form of the greatest union with the faith, the life of the Church, and with God Himself. When I receive Jesus Christ in Holy Communion, I am demonstrating union, first with Christ and His will. Jesus Christ said, “Who observes My commandments is who loves Me.” When you do not observe the commandment of God, in this case, not to kill the innocent, you are not loving God and not in union with Him. Yet by going to Holy Communion, you display before all that you are in the closest union with God, because Holy Communion is the closest possible union with Him on Earth, through the sacramental reception of His Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity. At the same time, it is the greatest expression of union with the entire Church.

The Church always rejects and will reject, categorically, abortion or other public immoralities, such as the homosexual agenda or same-sex “marriages.” The Church rejects these because they are against the revealed will of God and against the true happiness of those persons. When politicians openly promote abortion or same-sex “marriages,” they are not in union with the teaching of the Church. How, then, can they go to Communion and claim to be in full communion with the Church, which implies communion with its teaching? This is a lie.

To give Communion to such politicians is a performance of a falsehood. It is fake and, at the same time, sacrilegious. It is an offense to God, because the Holy Communion is the most sacred thing we have, and it is being desecrated by this fake performance. By doing so, those who give Holy Communion, the priests or bishops, implicitly approve of the lifestyle of these politicians, saying it is acceptable. This is anti-pastoral, anti-witness, and a desecration of the Most Holy.

It is also a profound act of uncharity toward the politicians themselves, because they are committing sacrilege and offending God by contradicting His will and then receiving Holy Communion. As St. Paul says, they are “eating their judgment,” and by allowing them, priests and bishops are letting them do so, harming their eternal salvation. This is non-charitable and contrary to the love of neighbor.

Every priest, when this is publicly known, must charitably refuse to give them Holy Communion. He should say, “I do this because I love you. I do not want to harm your soul.” The refusal to give Holy Communion is an expression of love for their soul. When they die, they may remember this and be grateful that the priest spared them from additional grave sins. They may have already committed many sins, such as supporting the mass murder of innocent children, but at least they will not have accumulated further sins through the sacrilegious reception of Holy Communion.

We must see this in the light of eternity. These politicians should never receive Holy Communion for the sake of their own salvation and the salvation of their souls.
