Bishop Athanasius Schneider Responds to Fr. Altman!

Interview Organization: Joe McClane
Interviewer Name: Joseph Mcclane‧

Bishop Schneider explains that even if Pope Francis’s election were technically invalid, history shows that previously invalid papal elections were accepted when the majority of cardinals and bishops recognized the elected pope. Currently, no cardinal considers Pope Francis’s election invalid, and all acknowledge him as the de facto valid Pope.

Joe McClane: And just over the weekend, we saw that Father Altman in America doubled down on his arguments.

Bishop Athanasius Schneider: Regarding the stance of Father Altman, even if the election of Cardinal Bergoglio had been invalid, there have been, during 2,000 years, invalid elections of popes, not just a few, but several. Nevertheless, when the majority of the College of Cardinals and the episcopate accepted the newly elected, even if invalidly elected, candidate, and began to name him in the Holy Mass, in the Eucharist, he was considered de facto the valid Pope for a considerable time. To my knowledge, no cardinal today considers the election of Cardinal Bergoglio invalid. All the Cardinals agree.
