Bishop Schneider praises the Dubia submitted by five cardinals, including Cardinal Sarah, as a heroic act crucial for clarifying matters of faith for present and future generations. He criticizes Pope Francis’ responses as vague, unclear, and confusing, urging prayer for the Pope to provide clearer guidance in the future.

Bishop Athanasius Schneider: Regarding the Dubia presented by the five cardinals, including Cardinal Robert Sarah, this is considered a heroic and historically significant act. The presentation of these questions is not just for our current time but for the future 100–200 years and for eternity. It was a necessary and meritorious action to clarify matters of faith.

Katholische Antworten: John Gray, Religion News Service: What do you think of Pope Francis’s responses to the Dubia?

Bishop Athanasius Schneider: Unfortunately, the Pope’s answers are unsatisfactory. Rather than resolving doubts, they create more confusion. The answers were vague, unclear, and in some ways actively confusing. We must be honest: these responses do not clarify the questions. We should pray for the Pope so that he may provide clearer guidance in the future.
