Today’s Vortex – What are They Afraid Of?

Interview Organization: Church Militant
Interviewer Name: Gary Michael Voris
Date: July 9, 2015
Bishop Schneider warns that many prelates fear losing their positions, valuing power over eternity. He criticizes careerism, reluctance to speak hard truths, and ecumenical niceties that dilute Catholic teaching. He says Jesus and the apostles spoke clearly. He also rejects claims that few or none go to hell, calling them lies.

Gary Michael Voris: It hurts the church to say, yes, you can be in a state of sin, mortal sin, and we’ll still give you Holy Communion. What’s going on in their minds?

Perhaps. Josh, hello everyone, and welcome to the Vortex, where lies and falsehoods are trapped and exposed. I’m Michael Voris. While ChurchMilitant.com was in Rome last month, I had the great opportunity to sit down with one of the most faithful bishops in the world, Bishop Athanasius Schneider. He has made a point of traveling the world and insisting on fidelity to church teachings. He isn’t afraid to call out problems and speak to the severe consequences that flow from a lack of fidelity. One of the most severe issues he sees is fear, which grips many prelates these days, born out of a love for power and influence, not thinking about eternity.

Bishop Athanasius Schneider: They are afraid that they will perhaps lose their post, but they will not lose their soul. They worry that I will lose my bishop’s office for these few years. Well, he can govern still, perhaps for five years. He doesn’t know because God can call him at any moment tomorrow. Or he can govern for ten years when he is now 65, at least ten years. Then he has to go to Emeritus. But then comes eternity. What is the comparison, ten years governing a diocese or being a Cardinal, and eternity?

Gary Michael Voris: To be certain, many lay Catholics already sense this disease of the soul among various prelates and are deeply concerned, saddened, and angered all at the same time. Catholics want strong, faithful leaders to follow, not careerists. Our Blessed Lord Himself strongly rebuked this lust for power, even within the apostolic band. Another time, when the crowd wanted to make Him king after one of the miracles of the multiplication of the loaves, He ordered the apostles into a boat to ensure they did not get swept up in all the enthusiasm of worldly praise, for such is not the kingdom of God. Catholics don’t want powerful celebrities and larger-than-life personalities for their shepherds. They want humble men who love our Lord and His sheep and will die for them, not consort with the world. His Excellency also struck out against the attitude that everything must be said in sweet niceties.

In the United States, there is a tone of ecumenism where the conversation centers around not offending as one’s first concern. So if we are talking about Catholic truth, and the majority of America is Protestant, we must speak in such a way as not upset them.

Bishop Athanasius Schneider: Yes, this is not the method of our Lord Jesus Christ and of the apostles. Our Lord Jesus Christ would not have spoken to the Jews, the Pharisees, the scribes, in such a manner. He spoke very clearly and, when necessary, used hard words to show the untruth of His contemporaries.

Bishop Schneider addresses the ridiculous anti-Catholic notion that hell is empty or almost empty of humans, an idea being spread far and wide by Catholic leaders and popular clerics in America.

One of the things we hear a lot, particularly in America, is the idea that almost everybody goes to heaven and almost nobody, if anybody, goes to hell.

Bishop Athanasius Schneider: Well, this is a lie. This is a lie.

Gary Michael Voris: You won’t want to miss that interview. God loves you. I’m Michael Voris.
