On May 6th, Bp. Athanasius Schneider of Kazakhstan spoke at the Third International Rome Life Forum. The good Bishop discussed, among other things, deception, the need for clarity, St. Pope Pius X and Fulton Sheen’s predictions about the crisis in the Church. Here are just a few of his many insightful observations:
The doctrines of rationalism, naturalism, [and] anthropocentrism shape the frame of mind of the world today. Since the French Revolution they have conquered almost all sectors of public life and have invaded in progressive stages large areas of the Church’s life. At the beginning of the 21st century, we are witnessing an apostasy in the civil society, which resembles a direct and quasi-apocalyptic revolt against God Himself and against the divinely established order of the natural law.
John-Henry Westen (who appeared on Church & State with me just the other week) spoke at the Forum as well. His topic was “gender ideology.” Cdl. Raymond Burke also gave a conference on martyrdom.
Fr. Thomas Rosica, a press secretary at the Vatican, recently said some pretty disparaging things about Catholic bloggers. Without naming any names, he said many Catholics have “turned the Internet into a cesspool of hatred, venom and vitriol.” He also said these people are “obsessed, scrupulous, self-appointed, nostalgia-hankering virtual guardians of [the] faith” and “are very disturbed, broken and angry individuals.”
