WAVERLY (SNR) – Bishop Athanasius Schneider, renowned speaker and author, is coming to the Diocese of Lincoln for two events Oct. 19.
An online pro-life Day retreat will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House in Waverly. Although the in-person retreat is full, free live streaming is available by registering at goodcounselretreat.org.
Bishop Schneider will also preach a 7 p.m. holy hour at St. Thomas Aquinas Newman Center in Lincoln Oct. 19. A reception will follow with a chance to meet the bishop. Copies of his book “Christus Vincit,” will be available for sale.
Bishop Athanasius Schneider is an auxiliary bishop from Kazakhstan and learned his love for the truth of the Church while growing up under atheistic Soviet rule. The background formed his strength of character, integrity and virtue, as well as his unswerving pro-life commitment and reverence for the Eucharist.
“Like his fourth-century patron, St. Athanasius, Bishop Schneider fearlessly speaks,” said Father Gary Coulter, director of the retreat house. “Whether defending the unborn or fighting for religious liberty, he preaches the word ‘in season and out of season’” (2 Tim 4:2).
“His insights into the challenges facing Christ’s flock today provide clarity and hope for Catholics,” he said.
Bishop Schneider’s Oct. 19 visit is being organized by “One Heart, One Mind,” a Lincoln based pro-life initiative dedicated to praying and working for an end to all use of aborted human fetuses in medical and other research.
