Cardinal Paul Cordes shared that during a private dinner with Pope John Paul II, he asked why Russia was not specifically mentioned during the 1984 consecration. The Pope explained it was due to political advice. While the consecration was accepted by the heavens, it was not perfect and should be prayed for properly.

A German cardinal named Paul Cardinal Cordes served as my witness. He told me when he traveled to Kazakhstan for Fatima's Centenary Anniversary.

He was at St. Peter's Square in 1984 when John Paul II made the consecration, and he found it surprising that Russia was not mentioned. Within a few weeks, Cardinal Cordes received a private dinner invitation from Pope John Paul II. He questioned the Holy Father during dinner: "Holy Father, why did you not expressly mention Russia during the consecration?" The Pope replied, "I wanted to mention Russia, but the Vatican diplomat advised me not to due to the political circumstances.”

If you fail to specifically mention Russia, you recognize that this is just a general consecration. Despite its vagueness, the heavens accepted the consecration, according to Sr. Lucia, for it was a beautiful act of prayer. However, since it wasn't specifically directed at Russia, logically speaking this does not imply that it was carried out flawlessly. Therefore, we wait and pray for it to be executed properly; the heavens will accept this as well.
