Q375 – What Can the Lay Faithful Do When Their Latin Masses Are Consolidated or Cancelled?

Interview Organization: Confraternity of Our Lady of Fatima
Interviewer Name: Christopher P. Wendt
Date: July 13, 2025
Bishop Schneider urges the faithful to keep appealing to their bishop and write to the Pope for justice and their legitimate rights. When asked about inviting priests to supply Mass, he notes it would be difficult, as bishops may declare them illegitimate. Traveling to another diocese could be an option.
If you like what we do and want to regularly support our mission to build the Reign of Mary and/or assist the episcopal ministry of Bishop Athanasius Schneider, please consider becoming a Servant of Mary.

Bishop Schneider: They must continue to ask the bishop to restore justice at the very least, the minimum, and to write to the Pope to protect them. I believe they must continue to ask for their legitimate right.

Christopher Wendt: And then, would it be fair to say that they could also consider inviting some priests to supply (Mass) in the interim?

Bishop Schneider: Well, that would be difficult, because the bishop could likely declare those priests illegitimate. So yes, it would be difficult. Or, perhaps, they could travel to a neighboring diocese if that’s possible. I mean, I don’t know. It depends on the distance.
