Bishop Athanasius Schneider explains that Elijah’s ascent shows exceptions exist, but since the Church has not defined a dogma on this matter, different views remain possible. Some theologians hold that a person may still undergo death and later share in the general resurrection in a manner known to God.

The Church did not proclaim a dogma about this, so we can reflect on it. There are several explanations, but some serious theologians hold that she also must experience death like every child of Adam and Eve, and then, in a way known to God, share in the general resurrection of all flesh.
