Question 292 – How can we uphold the doctrine of the Church’s indefectibility in light of the presence of heresy within the Church?

Interview Organization: The Confraternity of Our Lady of Fatima
Interviewer Name: Christopher Wendt
Date: July 13, 2024
Our Lord compared the Church to a field with both good wheat and bad plants, symbolizing the mixture of good and evil in the Church. The angels will remove the evil at the end of time. The Church’s indestructibility is shown in the Gospel when Christ calmed the storm, assuring us that despite crises, He is with us, and the storm will eventually pass.

Transcript:

Our Lord gave us examples, first in the Gospel, when He compared the Church to a field where wheat was growing, and then the enemy came and sowed bad plants among the good. This is a mixture of good and bad together. This is the first example. But Our Lord then said that in the end, the angels would come and remove the evil ones from the field of the Church, but only at the end of time, and only the good will remain. This is a characteristic of the historical Church to have both the evil and the good mixed together.

Then, the indestructibility of the Church is manifested in the Gospel with the event when the apostles were with Christ in the boat, and a huge tempest arose with strong winds. The boat began to fill with water, and the apostles were afraid that they would perish. In our day, we may have the impression that the boat of the Church is sinking in the waters due to the unprecedented crisis. But we must not forget that Christ is in the boat, just as He was at that time. He will stand up and command the winds and the tempest to be silent, and then there will be calm and tranquility. This will happen again in our time as well. We don’t know exactly when, but this crisis will end, and God, like Christ, will stand up and command the winds and the tempest to cease in our day as well.
