Signs of the Spirit of God include humility, docility, patience, simplicity, and a desire to imitate Christ, bringing light and confidence to the soul without attachment to gifts. In contrast, signs of the evil spirit are pride, restlessness, hypocrisy, impatience, false charity, and attachment to worldly things.

Signs of the Spirit of God are the following: It fits with the teaching of the Church; it is serious and gives light to the soul. It brings docility, discretion, modesty, no hardness, no exaggerations, humble thoughts, confidence in God, rightness of intention, patience in suffering, self-denial, sincerity, and simplicity in conduct. There are no attachments, not even to the gifts and revelations. It inspires a great desire to imitate Christ in all things: gentleness, kindness, and humility. These are the signs of the Spirit of God.

The signs of the evil spirit are the spirit of falseness or lies; suggestions of useless, curious, or impertinent things; restlessness in the soul; a bold, obstinate spirit; many indiscretions; pride; lack of hope; vanity; self-satisfaction; impatience; hypocrisy; pretense; attachment to earthly things; and a false charity, including bitter zeal and lack of discretion.
