Enemies Within the Church: A Reflection by Bishop Athanasius Schneider

Interview Organization: Vjerni Bogu II
Date: November 16, 2023
Bishop Schneider says the Church is under spiritual attack, with enemies of Christ occupying key roles to alter the faith and conform it to the world. Despite this, he affirms Christ’s sovereignty, the Church’s endurance, and the promise of future faithful leaders. He cites Bishop Strickland’s removal as a clear sign.

Yes, we also have to see this from a supernatural, spiritual perspective because the church is the Mystical Body of Christ. The church is ultimately in the almighty hands of Jesus Christ. Of course, humanly speaking, it’s very sad, and it’s a demonstration of the extent to which the enemies of Christ, the enemies of the church, and the enemies of the truth have penetrated within the church. When someone is an enemy of the full truth, they are also an enemy of Christ.

These powers have occupied important offices and roles in the church and are using their temporal power within the church to eliminate those who resist this new movement of changing the faith, changing the church, and adapting the church to the wishes of this world. They want to transform the church into a kind of Protestant community or an NGO with some religious colors or cosmetics. All of this is happening in the church now, but they will not succeed. Even these enemies who have penetrated the church will not succeed in changing the church. The church will remain Catholic, Apostolic, Roman, and the cathedral of Peter in Rome will again obtain powerful, courageous successors of Peter who will strengthen all the bishops and the flock in the true Catholic faith. This is our vision.

But I repeat, the deposition of Bishop Strickland is a very evident demonstration of the extent to which the crisis of the church is now going on and the heights it has reached. But, as Saint Paul says, when there is increasing darkness, increasing crisis, and increasing sin and injustice, the grace of God also increases. The Lord will grant all his faithful servants his grace and his strength again.
