Question 42 – Do You Recommend Any Books To Help Us To Prepare Spiritually?

Interview Organization: Confraternity of Our Lady of Fatima
Interviewer Name: Christopher P. Wendt
I recommend reading "The Lord of the World" by Robert Hugh Benson, a prophetic dystopian novel about the Anti-Christ and the end times. Also, explore the biographies of martyrs like Thomas More, John Fisher, and the Cristeros to inspire resistance to modern thinking. The lives of persecuted Christians, particularly during the French Revolution and Soviet Union, provide powerful examples of faith. Strengthening our virtues of hope, faith, and trust in God is crucial in today's world. Books by good confessors on hope and faith in God offer valuable insights, especially during trials.
If you like what we do and want to regularly support our mission to build the Reign of Mary and/or assist the episcopal ministry of Bishop Athanasius Schneider, please consider becoming a Servant of Mary.

Transcript:

Firstly, I would recommend the book entitled, “The Lord of the World” written by Robert Hugh Benson. It is a dystopian science fiction novel that centers around the reign of the Anti-Christ and the end of the world. This book is acclaimed to be prophetic.

Secondly, I would recommend reading the biographies of the martyrs and confessors, especially Thomas More and John Fisher, simply because of the necessary correlation of our time to resist modern thinking. May we follow the examples of these two saints to remain faithful to Christ.

We may also read about the lives of the martyrs in Mexico, the Cristeros, during those times when religious freedom was suppressed.  The French Catholics became martyrs during the French Revolution. The stories of the persecuted Christians during the communist period especially the Soviet Union.

It is always beneficial for us to have these examples present given that they will inspire us to continue serving as great examples and, of course, to strengthen our trust in the Lord. We need to strengthen our supernatural virtue of hope for it is crucial in today’s world. The temptation for good Catholics nowadays is to give in to discouragement and a lack of supernatural virtues like faith, hope, and divine providence, which reminds us that God is always with us, even in the darkest of times. Lastly, I suggest reading books about having hope and faith in God authored by good confessors since these saints have been through trials and have never lost hope.
