Question 4 – Is it OK to Study at a Society of the Pius X Seminary for My Priestly Formation?

Interview Organization: Confraternity of Our Lady of Fatima
Interviewer Name: Christopher P. Wendt
Date: December 13, 2020
The Society of Saint Pius X is not fully recognized by Rome but offers solid, traditional priestly formation. The decision for this young man depends on his personal discernment, spiritual guidance, and the specific formation he seeks. Ultimately, he must choose prayerfully, guided by God and his director.
If you like what we do and want to regularly support our mission to build the Reign of Mary and/or assist the episcopal ministry of Bishop Athanasius Schneider, please consider becoming a Servant of Mary.

Yes, I say this a bit objectively.

The Society of St. Pius X, from the point of view of strict, formal canon law, is not yet fully recognized by Rome because of the current extraordinary crisis in the Church.

On the other hand, the Society of St. Pius X, to my knowledge, provides good priestly formation, similar to what the Church provided before the Second Vatican Council.

So, the concrete question for this young man is that he has to decide for himself and ask God, along with his spiritual director, which place to go.

Of course, the Society of St. Pius X and the other approved seminaries of the communities established by Ecclesia Dei offer a more secure and traditional formation, but the final decision must be made by the young man himself.
