Question 5 – Is it Permissible to Pray the Rosary During Holy Mass?

Interview Organization: Confraternity of Our Lady of Fatima
Interviewer Name: Christopher P. Wendt
Date: December 13, 2020
The Rosary is a powerful way to contemplate the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. During Holy Mass, which already contains all the mysteries of Christ's life, praying the Rosary can be very fitting. However, it depends on personal preference. Some may prefer to follow the Mass prayers, while others may feel called to pray the Rosary. Both are valid ways to connect with the Lord, and the Church allows freedom in this. God will give grace according to each person's disposition.

So many saints pray the Rosary during Holy Mass.

What is the Rosary? The Rosary is the contemplation of the life, death, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. All of this happens in mystery in the sacrament during Holy Mass.

Holy Mass contains, in some way, all the mysteries of the life of Jesus Christ. The Incarnation is at the center, followed by Golgotha, the sacrifice, and the living Christ, whose glorified body is the Eucharist.

So, I think it is very appropriate to pray the Rosary during Holy Mass, but it depends on you and your personality. Some people prefer to follow the book, the Missal, which the priest reads, and contemplate the beautiful prayers of the Church. This also has great significance.

Pope Pius X suggested this method for people not to pray during Mass but to pray with the Mass, as these are the Church's prayers, or even to listen or meditate.

But, as I repeat, it depends on your disposition and spiritual state. So here, we should leave freedom to the people. The Lord is generous and will give you many graces according to your situation.
