Q330 – Has Bishop Schneider reconsidered his view on the Fatima consecration by Pope Francis?

Interview Organization: The Confraternity of Our Lady of Fatima

Pope Francis fulfilled Our Lady’s request for the consecration of Russia more completely than any previous Pope. He involved all bishops, explicitly named Russia, used the word “consecrate,” and invoked the Immaculate Heart. This act aligns with tradition. Results aren’t immediate God works in His time, not through magical formulas.

Well, I have already spoken and written several times that the consecration performed by Pope Francis was, in fact, done in the way Our Lady requested, something no previous Pope had fully done. For example, Pope Pius XII explicitly consecrated Russia in 1952, but he did so alone, without the participation of the bishops. So, even Pius XII did not fulfill the request of Our Lady entirely.

Then came Paul VI, who also did not carry it out. Pope John Paul II came closer when he invited all the bishops, which was an important step, but he did not explicitly mention Russia. Moreover, at the central moment of his 1984 prayer, he did not use the word "consecrate"; instead, he said "entrust." He even omitted the phrase “to your Immaculate Heart.” So, in that sense, it was a very weak act of consecration, not fully in line with what was asked.

Pope Francis, on the other hand, did it properly. He personally invited all the bishops through a formal letter. He clearly mentioned Russia, along with Ukraine and the entire world. But this does not contradict Our Lady’s request. She did not say that the Pope should consecrate only Russia and no other country. She asked that he consecrate Russia, which leaves room to include others as well. Including additional countries or the whole world can even strengthen the act.

Pope Francis mentioned Russia, he used the word "consecrate", not "entrust," and he said it solemnly: "We solemnly consecrate…". He explicitly said, "to your Immaculate Heart." So, essentially, he fulfilled everything Our Lady asked. Nothing is missing.

However, we must also understand that the consecration Our Lady asked for is not some kind of magic formula. We must avoid thinking in magical terms. That is not how God works. It’s not that we say the prayer and the next day everything changes. This is not the way of God. The results are not immediate, and we don’t know the timing. What matters is that we do what God and Our Lady ask of us and then the rest is in God’s hands. The fruits may take decades to appear, but they will come—in God’s time.
