We should honor the bodies of our deceased loved ones due to the dignity of the body, as it is a temple of the Holy Spirit. The Church has always treated the body with respect, and traditional burial in cemeteries reflects this reverence. Keeping remains in a room lacks proper respect; burial is recommended when possible.

Transcript:

Usually, we should honor the bodies and remains of our departed loved ones because of the dignity of the body. Our body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, and the Church has always treated the body of the deceased with great honor. This is why there have traditionally been cemeteries, places where we honor the departed. We should maintain this attitude of reverence.

Simply keeping the remains in your room, like a book or image, I believe, lacks the due reverence and seriousness toward the remains and the body of the deceased. Therefore, I would recommend burying the remains in the earth, as the Church has always done, when it is possible to do so.
