Q357 – What do you think about the pope being an American?

Interview Organization: Confraternity of Our Lady of Fatima
Interviewer Name: Christopher P. Wendt
Date: May 13, 2025
Having a U.S. pope so soon, after Pope Francis from South America, shows the importance of Catholicism in Europe and the U.S., with many committed faithful Catholics. This encourages American Catholics. Yet the pope’s most crucial quality remains complete catholic and faithfulness to apostolic tradition.

Yes, I also did not think we would have a U.S. American pope so soon. We had a kind of American pope, Pope Francis, who is from the American continent, South America, but from the USA I did not imagine we would have one so soon. But God can work, and I think this also shows that Catholicism in Europe and the United States has importance, both numerically and because the true Catholics in the United States are really committed to the Catholic faith and love the Catholic faith and the papacy.

In this way, good Catholics in the United States have a good influence on the life of the entire Church. This is an encouraging sign, and I think for good Catholics in the States, it is a consoling and encouraging sign that God has given us a U.S. American pope.

But, of course, the most important quality of a pope is not his nationality but to be 100% catholic in his thinking and faithful to the tradition of the apostles and the entire Church.
