Q358 – How did you come up with the idea for the Rosary Crusade for holy popes, and how did the book come about?

The Centro Dom Bosco in Brazil asked me to write Rosary meditations. I suggested adding a concrete intention: praying for a new era of holy popes, as in the early Church when every pope was canonized. This prayer crusade seeks God’s grace for many holy popes again.

Well, it was a suggestion from Brazil, from the Centro Dom Bosco a good organization of faithful Catholics in Brazil that promotes and strengthens the Catholic faith through various initiatives, books, videos, conferences, and congresses. They asked me to write some meditations for the prayer of the Holy Rosary, and so I did.

Then the idea came to me: since people will be praying the Rosary with these meditations, why not give a concrete intention? Last year, I proposed that we offer the prayer of the Rosary for this specific intention that God may grant His Church holy popes, even many holy popes a kind of new era of holy popes, as we had in the past.

In the first centuries of the Church, until the fourth century, every pope beginning with Peter was canonized. So, for almost 300 years, we had an era of holy popes. The Church was growing and becoming consolidated, and this was a grace of the Lord. Then that era ended. After that, we had, from time to time, individual holy popes, but not, I would say, an era of holy popes.

So, this was my thought to ask God through such a Rosary crusade to grant us a new era of holy popes.
