Q367 – Is It Permissible for a Priest to Invite the People to Join in Saying the Words of Consecration?

Interview Organization: Confraternity of Our Lady of Fatima
Interviewer Name: Christopher P. Wendt
Date: May 13, 2025
Allowing anyone but a priest to pronounce the words of consecration is a grave liturgical abuse. It contradicts Catholic doctrine, which distinguishes the ministerial priesthood from the common priesthood. This Protestant-style practice is not Catholic and must be corrected and punished by proper Church authority.
If you like what we do and want to regularly support our mission to build the Reign of Mary and/or assist the episcopal ministry of Bishop Athanasius Schneider, please consider becoming a Servant of Mary.

Transcript:

No, it is a grave abuse, because the words of consecration can be pronounced only by a priest. This is the doctrine of the Church, because it marks an essential difference between the ministerial priesthood and the so-called common priesthood, an essential difference.

So, this practice would be a pure Protestant style. Protestants have no priesthood, and for them, anyone can pronounce the so-called Words of the Last Supper. This is absolutely not Catholic, and it is a grievous abuse. Such a displacement must be admonished by the bishop and punished, of course.
