Q370 – What is your opinion on clapping during Mass, Is it appropriate?

Interview Organization: Confraternity of Our Lady of Fatima

Clapping during Mass is inappropriate, as it introduces a theatrical, worldly atmosphere unworthy of divine worship. The Mass is sacred, not entertainment, and such gestures undermine its solemnity. Public worship of God requires reverence, not applause. Therefore, clapping should not be done at all in the liturgical setting.

Transcript:

No, it is not appropriate at all to clap. This transforms the Mass, giving it the atmosphere of entertainment like in a theater or a very worldly and informal atmosphere. It is unworthy of the public worship of God. It should not be done at all.
