Question 135 – What is your view Your Excellency, on the matter of special hosts for people with celiac disease?

Interview Organization: The Confraternity of Our Lady of Fatima
Interviewer Name: Christopher P. Wendt
The extent of health issues affecting individuals should be assessed by their doctors. If not serious, they should continue receiving the normal host used by the Church for 2,000 years. For those with severe health problems, the Church permits a wheat-reduced host, following specific guidelines for validity.
If you like what we do and want to regularly support our mission to build the Reign of Mary and/or assist the episcopal ministry of Bishop Athanasius Schneider, please consider becoming a Servant of Mary.

Transcript:

First, while it is a question of medicine and health, I do not know the extent of how these people are sick and the extent of how it is seriously affecting their health. They have to consult their doctors personally. If it is not affecting them seriously, it is better to take the normal host, which the church has been using for 2000 years.

I know someone who had serious health issues, but with faith, he still received the normal host and it did not harm him. This experience could be an example for those people who are also having these issues, to continue with deep faith and still receive the normal host.

If however, they continue to have these serious health problems, the church allows the use of a host that contains a limited amount of wheat for the matter to remain valid. There are clear indications on how to make these from the authorities. In this case, these persons could accept these hosts.
