Question 175 – Is it okay to have Saints as our Spiritual director?

Interview Organization: Confraternity of Our Lady of Fatima
Interviewer Name: Christopher P. Wendt
Date: March 13, 2023
Reading saints' lives can inspire us, but we shouldn't imitate every detail. Instead, we should embody their spirit and reactions. For serious spiritual questions, consulting a wise priest is helpful, even if continuous direction isn't needed. Combining the examples of saints with thoughtful guidance enriches our spiritual journey.
If you like what we do and want to regularly support our mission to build the Reign of Mary and/or assist the episcopal ministry of Bishop Athanasius Schneider, please consider becoming a Servant of Mary.

Transcript:

Yes, it is possible, of course, to read the life of a saint, but as a basic rule, saints have to be admired, however, we cannot imitate everything. We have to keep in mind this rule. We cannot imitate everything, in all the details of their practical life, but we can be inspired by their spirit, their words, and, in some way, imitate the Saint as if he/she would react.

This could be helpful for us. But when there are serious questions about the Spiritual life or decisions, it would be very helpful to consult a wise priest and ask for counsel. It is not necessary to continuously have a spiritual director, but in important cases and instances in our lives, we must consult a wise priest and then continue to follow the examples of the saints.
