Question 182 – Is the pontificate of Pope Francis a pontificate of rupture?

Interview Organization: Confraternity of Our Lady of Fatima
Interviewer Name: Christopher P. Wendt
Date: May 13, 2023
There are evident signs of rupture under Pope Francis, particularly his approval for divorced and remarried individuals to receive Holy Communion, contrary to 2,000 years of Church teaching. Additionally, his Motu Proprio, "Traditionis Custodes", revokes Pope Benedict XVI's support for the Traditional Latin Mass. Prayer is needed for Pope Francis to recognize and address these issues.

Yes, it is evident. We cannot deny this. Unfortunately, there are some evident signs of the rupture, for example, his approval for receiving Holy Communion even in special cases by divorced and remarried people which he gave to the bishops of the Argentina region, Buenos Aires region declaring that this is the only one authentic interpretation of Amores Laetitia.

This is contrary to the 2000 years of the constant teaching and sacramental practices of the Church which was again, reaffirmed by Pope John Paul II and Benedict XVI as a constant practice of the church – that people who are living officially in a state of sin like the divorced, whose marriage is valid and are living together in adultery, this have to say that they cannot go to Holy Communion unless they stop living in sin. This means that they have to live in continence. This was the constant practice of the Roman church and this was a rupture when Pope Francis allowed this to the divorced and remarried.

The other rupture most visible is that he is revoking the Motu Proprio of Pope Benedict Summorum Pontificum with which Pope Benedict XVI 2007 solemnly confirmed that the Traditional Latin Mass was never abrogated and must have the same veneration as the Novus Ordo and should be free in the entire church even promoted, of course with the approval of the bishop. But if they are faithful to what Pope Benedict XVI did, the bishop cannot forbid him, it would be an abuse.

The Traditionis Custodes of Pope Francis basically revoked the statement of Pope Benedict in such a short time, unfortunately. So, pray that the Lord and Our Lady of Fatima will illuminate Pope Francis so that he can recognize these ruptures and in his lifetime use the time to fix these ruptures. We pray for him.
