Question 184 – I’m concerned about the growing division within the Church between those committed to the Traditional Latin rite and the Modernists

Interview Organization: Confraternity of Our Lady of Fatima
Interviewer Name: Christopher P. Wendt
Date: May 13, 2023
Bishop Athanasius Schneider asserts that opposition to homosexual and gender ideologies extends beyond attendees of the Traditional Latin Mass, encompassing many good Catholics, Protestants, and non-Christians. He expresses concern about potential schism within the Church, particularly regarding German bishops promoting blessings for same-sex unions. Schneider notes a division in faith exists, as some bishops openly support heretical views, while the Society of Pius X, which upholds traditional teachings, is labeled schismatic. He criticizes the Holy See for failing to address these heretical actions among bishops and cardinals.

Bishop Athanasius Schneider:

We have to state not only the people of the Latin Mass are against homosexual ideology and gender ideology, but the majority of good Catholics of the Novus Ordo are I assume are against this. Even good Protestants are against homosexual ideology and even non-Christians. So the resistance against homosexuality and gender ideology is not always linked with the Traditional Latin Mass. There is of course the guarantee that people who attend the Traditional Latin Mass would never approve of such ideology, this is true.

Christopher Wendt:

But I guess the question is: “Are we headed towards Schism within the Church?” Like if we look at the German bishops, for example, I believe if I’m not mistaken, they have a rite on the table to bless these disordered unnatural unions.

Bishop Athanasius Schneider:

Yes, this is given. For decades, we have been living within the Catholic Church as if we live in different Christian Confessions or Religions. There are even some Bishops or Cardinals who are promoting openly heresies, apostasies, and all other immoral agendas of the world and powers now.

Basically, we are separated in the faith even though canonically we are in the same Church because these Bishops and Cardinals are still approved and recognized by the Church whereas (going back to the previous question), the Society of Pius X only preached the truth through what the Church had always done. No new novelties, transmitting the Catechism and the Holy Mass as the Church had always done, are then labeled as Schismatics so this is a contradiction.

I think there is a great omission on the part of the Holy See and the Pope not to correct these openly heretical Bishops and Cardinals.
