Of course, even the greatest sinner has a chance to be pardoned by God, reconciled with Him, and restored as a full member of the Mystical Body of Christ, the Church. This is the hopeful message and reality of the Christian faith, especially the Catholic faith, as God promises, "Even if your sins are as great as crimson, I will make them white as snow."

The basic requirement for these individuals is authenticity, honesty, and repentance for all the sins of their past life. They must also have a firm resolve not to commit those sins again, with God's help and grace, and make reparation for the scandals they caused, as far as possible. They must avoid further scandal and live their life according to the teachings of the Gospel.

As true Christians, they then have the opportunity to receive absolution in the sacrament of confession and begin a new life in grace within the Church.
