Question 264 – Do we commit mortal sin if we are preserved or revived through Cryogenics in the future?

Interview Organization: The Confraternity of Our Lady of Fatima
Interviewer Name: Christopher Wendt
Date: March 14, 2024
It is nonsense because death is a natural law when we die, the soul separates from the body. The soul will only reunite with the body at the resurrection, which only God can bring about. Human attempts to reverse this are senseless and, in my view, a mortal sin, undermining the truth of the resurrection.

Transcript:

It is, I would say, nonsense because it is a law of nature that we are mortal. When we die, our soul is separated from the body.

This is simply a fact, and they will only be united during the resurrection of the dead at the end of time. Until then, the soul will not reunite or be revived.

It is necessary for the soul to be reconnected with the body, and only God can do this. Therefore, all attempts and efforts by people are simply senseless. In some ways, I would consider it a mortal sin to do such things because it undermines the truth of the resurrection of the body, which we profess in the Creed, the symbol of faith, and which only God can bring about, not human beings.
