Question 271 – What act of simple penance should a member of the confraternity do?

Interview Organization: The Confraternity of Our Lady of Fatima
Interviewer Name: Christopher Wendt

Penance can take many forms, such as waking up on time, being patient with others at work or home, or refraining from watching television. Praying on your knees, when possible, is also a form of penance. You can ask your guardian angel for guidance on simple acts of penance throughout the day.

It varies depending on the situation. For example, when you wake up in the morning, you can start your day with a small act of balance, or you could practice patience with people at work or at home who are irritating you, choosing not to respond immediately but to remain silent, for instance. This can all be considered penance choosing not to watch television, for example.

Penance can also involve praying on your knees for a period of time when it is physically possible for you, and so on. There are countless occasions throughout the day. I would suggest asking your guardian angel, 'Please, my good guardian angel, guide me in what simple, small act of penance I can do today.' I believe the guardian angel will remind you.
